rokin mini tank review

The Good: Very affordable | Extremely portable | Good battery capacity

The Bad: Only one voltage setting | Slightly longer loading procedure than other batteries

The Bottom Line: The Rokin Mini Tank is the top choice if portability is your top priority, but not if multiple voltage settings are. I had fun taking a quick hit anywhere I wanted, but when I was in the mood for a longer session, I had to switch to a battery with more options. Still, this is a good choice for taking the occasional quick hit throughout the day.

Design and Features

rokin mini tank design
At just under two inches, the Mini Tank is small enough to fit in the palm of your hand.

Background: The Rokin Mini Tank is a small, inexpensive box style 510 battery for pre-filled THC and CBD cartridges. It’s one of the more basic 510 batteries, so it’s great for anyone who likes to take an occasional hit without worrying about setting a voltage. It’s not so great for anyone who likes more voltage options.

General Design: Unlike a lot of boxy batteries, the Mini Tank consists of two pieces, a removable front end that covers up the cartridge and the main body that consists of the actual battery. This is a little inconvenient compared to other batteries where all you do is drop the cartridge into a chamber. It’s also inconvenient because it can’t hold wider cartridges.

Attaching a cartridge to the battery is hardly laborious, but it does take a little longer than it does with batteries where you have a cartridge chamber. You could theoretically use the Mini Tank without the protective cover, but you would leave the cartridge exposed. Plus it just looks weird. At least the protective cover has a cutout that allows you to check the level of oil left in the cartridge.

Portability: The Mini Tank is about two inches tall, making it one of the smallest batteries available. So you can take it anywhere, even with a cartridge inserted into it. You have to be careful of the mouthpiece of the cartridge getting dirty though.

How to Use

  1. Remove the protective cover from the battery.
  2. Screw the cartridge onto the battery and replace the protective cover.
  3. Press the power button five times to turn on the battery.
  4. (Optional) Press the power button three times for a fifteen second preheat.
  5. When heating is complete, inhale from the mouthpiece while holding down the power button.

Voltage Setting: 3.7V

Preheat Setting: 1.8V

rokin mini tank performance
The Mini Tank does a good job vaping a wide variety of cartridges, especially the ones with thinner oils.

Battery Performance: The Mini Tank heats up quickly and has a good airflow, so it’s great for taking a hit whenever you want, wherever you want. The lack of voltage selection is a plus in the kind of situations where you want to take a quick, sneaky hit of CBD. Or something a little stronger.

Vapor Quality: Despite the single voltage setting, flavor quality is quite good, since that setting is just right as far as flavor quality is concerned. That is because 3.7V—or thereabouts—is usually the lowest setting on batteries with variable voltage selection, and that is usually where I set them when using my carts.

Of course, some people will want to vape thicker oils or blow bigger clouds, in which case, the sole voltage setting could be a handicap. If you’re vaping thicker oils, the the preheat function helps somewhat, but the ability to select a higher voltage would have been better. As for big clouds, you’re out of luck, but, then again, I doubt anyone is buying such a discreet battery to blow big, conspicuous clouds.

Battery Duration: The Mini Tank has a 500 mAh battery capacity, which is pretty big for such a small device. It lasts for a few days before needing a recharge, especially if you just take a hit every now and then. It will need to be recharged a little more frequently if you like longer sessions, but at least that recharge is pretty quick.

Rokin Mini Tank vs Yocan Uni vs KandyPens C-Box 510 Battery

The Uni and the C-Box have a lot of great attributes, but they can’t touch the Mini Tank when it comes to portability and vaping convenience. The chamber of the Uni has a cool adjustable shutter that allows it to fit any sized cartridge. The C-Box has the most voltage settings of the three and is arguably the coolest looking one.

Rokin Mini Tank Review Bottom Line

The Rokin Mini Tank is a great battery for users who value portability and convenience over everything else. The single voltage setting means that it is fast and easy to use. It also means that there aren’t any voltage settings for those who use thicker oils or like bigger clouds. Even so, it’s a good, highly affordable choice for anyone who doesn’t want, or need, a more complex device.

Who is it for: Cost conscious vapers. Anyone who wants maximum portability in their 510 batteries.

Who is it NOT for: Anyone who prefers multiple voltage settings.
