Design and Features
The Crystal doesn’t deviate too much from the standard vape pen design, though it is a little thicker than most vape pens and it has a sloping top piece from which the glass mouthpiece protrudes. There is a vertical strip of four lights on the front, below the power button, that indicate the temperature and battery levels. As with most vape pens, the power button controls all the functions of the device, and it keeps the overall design of the Crystal nice and smooth.
The Crystal is made from stainless steel so it’s pretty tough, plus it has a nice heft to it that you don’t get in other vape pens. The bowl of the Crystal is made from quartz, which makes it stand out since the bowls of vape pens are typically made from ceramic. Only a few other vape pens, like the Linx Blaze and HoneyStick Plasma GQ have that feature. The Crystal might not have the flash of some of KandyPens’ other vape pens but it is still a good-looking, intuitive device.
Aside from the quartz oven, the main feature of the Crystal is its sesh mode that is great for anyone who likes to take longer draws without having to hold down the button. Normally you need to hold down the button while you vape from the Crystal, but by activating sesh mode, it heats continuously for about ten seconds, so there is no need to keep pressing the button as you inhale.
How to Use
- Remove the mouthpiece to reveal the quartz bowl.
- Dab your wax into the bowl and then replace the mouthpiece.
- Press the power button five times to turn on the Crystal.
- Press the power button three times to cycle through the voltage settings.
- (Optional) Press the power button twice to activate sesh mode.
- Inhale from the mouthpiece.
Cleaning and Maintenance
The quartz bowl means that cleaning the Crystal is pretty easy. If there is residue left over, then you can turn the Crystal to its highest setting to burn it off. However, this can wear down the battery if you have to do it a few times in a row. You can also use an alcohol wipe to clean out the chamber after a session, while the bowl is still warm.
Performance and Vapor Quality
The quartz bowl of the Crystal heats up quickly so sessions can get going in a snap. You can get a lot of sessions in a row, about a dozen in fact, from about 0.1 gram of wax. However, the mouthpiece will start to get warm after too many consecutive sessions but that isn’t a problem with more casual use.
The Crystal has both a quartz bowl and a glass airpath, so the vapor quality is some of the purest that you can get in a vape pen. Both the bowl and the airpath are made from neutral materials that keep the vapor quality pure and preserve all the flavor notes. The Crystal has four voltage settings and I got the best flavor from the two middle settings. I also got nice clouds from those settings as well. However, if you want really big clouds, then you should crank the Crystal to its highest setting, but be prepared to lose some of the flavor as a result.
Draw resistance is low so enjoying the vapor is easy because inhaling from the mouthpiece is nice and smooth. The Crystal provides some of the best wax vaping that you can get from a vape pen.
The Crystal has a 900 mAh battery that can last for some time before it needs to be recharged. When it does need to be recharged, you can keep on vaping because the Crystal enables pass-through charging.
