In Depth Yocan Explore Review ↓
Yocan Explore Background
The Yocan Explore ($89.95 from Yocan) is a new vaporizer made for use with both dried herbal blends and waxy essential oils that feature an extremely compact and pocket-friendly size for stealthy use on the go. In this article, we will further test if this 2 in 1 vaporizer is worth your penny. Let’s begin!
Yocan Explore Design
This vaporizer measures at about 3.85″ tall by just under 2 inches wide, leaving you with the ultimate travel device as it is big enough to handle a sufficient amount of material while remaining small enough to comfortably fit in a pants or jacket pocket for discreet travel.
The Yocan Explore comes equipped with digital temperature control anywhere from 200 – 460°F, in precise 1-degree increments in order to hone in on the exact temperature for the results you are looking for.
This device comes stocked with interchangeable mouthpiece system’s that are each designed for use with a different type of material (dry herb and wax):
For dry herb use, a mouthpiece with built-in stir tool allows you to mix evenly the material inside the Explore’s chamber. This saves time, effort, and ensure that every last bit of dry herbs gets evenly heated.
For wax use, a concentrate coil and mouthpiece combo replace the stir tool with a cutting-edge coil that will loosen your medium to thick oil just enough to evenly spread them throughout the ceramic chamber.
Performance, Battery Life, and Vapor Quality
The performance of the Explore by Yocan may seem good, but there are problems that need to be discussed. The temperature range from 200°F to 460°F captures all the temperatures you need when vaping dry herb. But this range is not quite good if you vape concentrates and wax. The temperatures are way too low. I mean the top temperature of 460°F will technically get the job right, but it is so slow and the vapor won’t be that dense.
In regards to its vapor quality is pretty average. In dry herb mode, it performs pretty okay. The flavor starts decent but drops off pretty fast, even with the stirring tool. I’m not sure if it’s the plastic mouthpiece, but the flavor didn’t seem pure to me. In other words, it seemed like I was getting flavors that weren’t just from my herbs.
Now for its concentrates, like I said above, the temperatures are too low to get me satisfied. Instead of 1 or 2 big draws, I had to take a bunch of draws with very thin and wispy vapor. Not good at all!
For its battery life, the Explore is good. It has an internal battery with a capacity of 2600mAh. In my experience, it will last for up to an hour and a half on a single charge.
Obviously, the temperature you use will affect this. Maxing it out at 460°F for concentrates will make the battery drain faster.
How it Works
This is very easy to use. The button setup is simple, and there really isn’t much to remember. Explore is just 5 clicks to turn it on and then you click and hold the same button to engage the heat.
The up and down buttons are used to adjust the temperature. It’s all very intuitive, and a complete beginner shouldn’t have any problems figuring out how to use it.
For me alone, I think the Yocan Explore is average for a vaporizer. There’s nothing exciting about this device aside from its feature to vape with two different materials and take note that it doesn’t do concentrates that well. Also what I really concern about this vaporizer is its price. It’s expensive for its average performance and quality. In my opinion, you shouldn’t get this if you are looking for a device primarily for concentrates.
