Weed Friendly Tourist Destinations

You might enjoy vaping your weed around your home and occasionally outdoors. However, I’m sure every now and then you might wonder if you can take your weed vaporizer with you to a more scenic, exotic, or at the very least, just different location. The answer is yes. With marijuana laws getting looser in America and across the world, there are a variety of risk free or low risk locations to light up.

If you’re looking for a change of scenery then this article will give you some suggestions to start racking up those frequent flier miles or maybe to just go on a nice, long road trip. Just remember that while you can take your Pax 3 with you, you can’t take any herb with you. You’ll have to buy locally but that’s hardly a bad thing. Now let’s take a look at some of the best weed friendly tourist destinations.

Colorado

We’ll start nationally and we’ll start with the obvious. Colorado legalized marijuana in 2012 and is one of the few places in the world where it can be legally sold. Not surprisingly, it soon became a prime weed destination for anyone looking to use marijuana hassle-free. There are 420 friendly hotels, 420 tours, and a bunch of legal dispensaries. Those dispensaries are where you can get those oil pods that are all the rage these days.

Colorado has more to offer besides marijuana friendliness, especially if you’re the outdoorsy type. There’s the majesty of the Rocky Mountains, lots of parkland where you can observe the local wildlife, and you can’t forget all the skiing and snowboarding available. So, there’s a lot to do in Colorado besides get high. Just don’t make any Mile High jokes while you’re there. No one thinks they’re funny. No one.

Alaska

Staying in America, more or less, the other picturesque place where weed is legal is Alaska. They legalized weed in 2014 and sure enough tourists followed, you would think that more states would jump on the legalization bandwagon… Alaskan weed entrepreneurs took advantage of the cruise ship season to try and lure tourists to check out some of their goods.

So if you’re arriving in Alaska via boat, just ask the tourist company or one of the local taxi drivers where the dispensaries are located. Actually, just ask them that no matter how you get there, they’ll point you in the right direction. Once you’ve had your fill of weed, fill up on the beautiful scenery Alaska has to offer. You can go whale watching, visit a glacier, or check out one of their national parks. You can also visit a location where you can see the Aurora Borealis, which is great to watch when you’re high. Or so I’ve heard.

The Netherlands

We’re going international now and I might as well start with one of the more obvious marijuana friendly destinations. Marijuana is not actually legal in the Netherlands despite the country’s reputation as a cannabis playground. Cannabis is actually illegal but is widely tolerated. The infamous coffeeshops of Holland are the place to go to smoke or, preferably, vape with the locals and fellow travelers.

You might be wondering if weed is illegal in the Netherlands, is it legal in the coffeeshops? The answer is technically no but the Dutch authorities grant them permission to trade. Yes, it’s confusing but don’t worry about it. Just enjoy the freedom to smoke and vape in public. Enjoy the sights while you’re at it too, the canals of Amsterdam, the Keukenhof Flower Garden, and the various museums are all worth visiting no matter your state of mind.

Jamaica

Despite having a very lax attitude to the use of ganja—as the locals call it—for a very long time, Jamaica only officially decriminalized marijuana in 2015. Granted, ganja has been allowed for Rastafarians who use it as part of their religion. Now, any resident can grow their own marijuana plants. As for tourists, if you have a medical marijuana card, you’re allowed to buy up to two ounces of marijuana.

And if you don’t have a medical marijuana card… Pretty much anyone you talk to in one of the tourist destinations will offer to hook you up but the weed they’re offering is probably low to middling quality. If you want the good stuff (which is really good) try to find a seller with access to high grade ganja. It can be expensive but it’s some of the best around. You can chill in one of the many resorts with some quality reading material or you can enjoy it while visiting the beautiful beaches, the lush rainforests, or the verdant mountains. You can’t take it back with you unfortunately, so you might as well use it while you’re there.

Uruguay

I’ve offered weed friendly vacation suggestions in Europe and the Caribbean, now how about a trip to South America. Uruguay is the first country in the world to completely legalize weed. There are some restrictions of course, much like how there are restrictions to alcohol use, but cannabis use is perfectly legal there. Before you book your ticket to Uruguay, you should know that the law is restricted to Uruguayans.

Before you start thinking about changing your nationality, you should also know that it’s okay if a friendly local shares their weed with you. So if you needed any incentive to be friendly to the locals, that’s it. They can also recommend some of Uruguay’s fantastic destinations as well. Places like the various vineyards that offer wine-tasting tours, the amazing Estadio Centenario football stadium, or the hot springs in Salto and Paysandu. There’s a lot more to Uruguay than just legal weed.

Your Destination Awaits

There are other interesting weed friendly destinations out there, Israel for example. Israel legalized medical marijuana, leads the world in THC and CBD research, and has a pretty tolerant attitude towards recreational use. Spain has a very large number of cannabis clubs where weed use is legal because it takes place on private property.

Both destinations also feature amazing sights to see and places to visit, so they’re great for regular vacations as well. That’s what’s so great about taking a weed vacation, you get to get high and admire the beauty of your surroundings. Just remember to avoid Ugly American syndrome and respect the local laws and customs and be nice to all the people you come across. That way everyone gets to have a good time.
