Vaping is not always as straightforward as we’d like it to be. Sometimes users will not get the full experience and would either not get enough vapor, or a strong enough effect from their weed vaporizer. Luckily, most of the times a simple adjustment would do the trick and make your experience 10 times better.
In this article, I’ll show you 5 simple tips on how to get the most vapor and best performance out of your dry herb vaporizer. Learning to use your herbal vape properly is easier than you might think and once you’ve mastered these few simple tips, you will definitely be off and running.
Of course, the first tip is- USE A GOOD VAPORIZER. Otherwise, none of these would work.
Use a good grinder
With most vaporizers, you get the best performance when you grind your herb as finely as you can. You want the herb to have a lot of exposed surface area, so hot air can travel through and pick up the terpenes and other potent molecules in your herb. A lot of surface area would cause your herb to “burn” evenly and will get you the most vapor.
For this, it is important to use a good grinder. My personal favorite is the SLX grinder. It also has a Ceramic coating so nothing sticks to it. It turns as good as new even after a year of heavy use and 0 cleaning. So SLX or another, use a high-end grinder that would ground your herb finely and evenly.
Pack a tight, full oven
After you ground your herbs fine using a good grinder, you must pack the herb chamber firmly so the herb sits tight and the oven is full. There’s a catch- pack tight but not so tight that would prevent the air from going through your herb. It needs to be tight enough so there’s nothing loose and the oven is dense but not dense enough to restrict the airflow and prevent air from flowing through the chamber. A loose oven will produce no vapor.
What I usually do is overfill the chamber, then tap it down either by your finger or loading tool. I then pack the herb down into the oven until it’s evenly leveled with the top edge of the chamber.
Find the perfect draw
Most vaporizers work better if you ‘sip’ them instead of ‘rip’ them. This means that you draw in a controlled way, and take a full breath in. This part is a bit hard to explain because it is different from one Vape to the next. No matter which Vape you use, it will take a few draws to get the hang of it. Generally, I recommend drawing for at least 10 seconds and taking a full, controlled breath in. You can adjust the speed and intensity to find the perfect draw.
If drawing is hard, you may have overpacked the oven. Try to take out some material and loose up the rest. Practice makes perfect so experiment and analyse the results.
Using the Right Temperature
Above all, this tip might depend on vapers’ preference and could be subjective to some. Frankly speaking, the higher you set your temperature, the closer you will come to a smoke-like experience and the stronger the effects of your vapor will. But here’s the tricky part, for most vaporizers, the higher you set your temperature the more your flavor will deteriorate and the harsher the vapor is. So, experiment and find the sweet spot between flavor and vapor!
I start most of my sessions around 375F and increase up to 410F towards the end. It’s nice to start a session low and get that fresh aroma and then increase to really get the effect ?
This might seem like an obvious tip, but it’s extremely important that you keep your herb chamber, your vapor path and especially the screens in your vapor path clean – clear from residues and clogs. Most vaporizers can easily be cleaned with ISO alcohol or Q-Tips dipped in ISO alcohol. Never dip your entire vaporizer in ISO alcohol.
I strongly recommend cleaning your vape right after a session. You see, cleaning your Vape is like washing the dishes- it’s easy if you do it right away but if you wait the residue will dry up and will be harder to remove. Heat melts it, so clean your oven right after your session, when the oven is still semi warm.
Those are the 5 simple tips that can lead to the most optimal vaporizer experience! Of course, there are specifics for every individual vaporizer to really get the most out of it, but whatever vaporizer you have, these will guide you towards getting the most out of your new vaporizer.
