Design and Features

Yocan Trio Design
The Trio has a simple design that is very easy to use and pleasant to look at.

General Design: For a device designed to vape three different substances, the Trio is surprisingly simple. It has a single power button to control the preset temperatures and it only consists of two pieces, the pod you’re using and the battery to power it. That makes it remarkably easy to use since all you need to do is pop on a pod and you’re good to go.

The Trio isn’t a bad looking device. It’s a little different from Yocan’s usual design aesthetic because of the grooves inlaid on the front that give it some visual interest. Each of the pods has a tapered mouthpiece that blends in nicely with the battery and feels good to boot. The power button is well placed right in the center of the device, so it is easily accessible despite the Trio’s small size. The only design qualm I have is that the oil and e-juice pods are too similar looking.

Portability: The Trio is about three inches tall, so you can take it anywhere, in fact, a clenched fist will swallow it up completely. The pods are attached to the battery via magnets that feel strong and secure. So, I never had to worry that the pods would accidentally snap off while they were in my pocket, they stayed intact the whole time.

Cleaning and Maintenance

The dual quartz rod is the main consideration when it comes to cleaning, which helps to keep the Trio a low maintenance device. You clean the coils by using a q-tip dipped in isopropyl alcohol. For more stubborn residue, you can dunk the whole thing in iso alcohol for a few hours.

How to Use

Yocan Trio How to Use
The magnetically connected pods are easy to attach and detach, and easy to refill, which makes using the Trio fast and simple.

With Wax Concentrates

  1. The wax concentrate pod is the solid black one. First, you remove the mouthpiece from the atomizer to expose the coils.
  2. Next, dab your wax onto the coils, and then reattach the mouthpiece.
  3. Turn on the device by pressing the power button five times.
  4. Select one of the preset temperatures by pressing the power button three times.
  5. Once heating is complete, inhale from the mouthpiece while holding down the power button.

With Oil Concentrates

  1. The oil concentrate pod is the one with a green tinge. Remove the mouthpiece from the pod.
  2. Remove the rubber seal from the pod and pour your oil into the tank.
  3. Reattach the seal to the tank, replace the mouthpiece, and then attach the pod to the battery.
  4. Press the power button five times to turn on the device.
  5. Press the power button three times to select a preset temperature.
  6. Inhale from the mouthpiece while holding down the power button when heating is complete.

With E-Liquid

  1. The e-juice pod is the one with a white hue. Separate the pod from the mouthpiece.
  2. Remove the rubber seal from the tank and pour the e-juice into the tank.
  3. Replace the seal, reattach the mouthpiece, and then connect the pod to the battery.
  4. Turn on the device by pressing the power button five times.
  5. Choose a temperature by pressing the power button three times.
  6. Once heating is complete, inhale from the mouthpiece while holding down the power button.

Temperature Selection: The Yocan Trio has three unspecified preset temperatures. Low (White) | Medium (Blue) | High (Green)

Performance and Vapor Quality

Yocan Trio Performance
The wax pod (left), e-liquid pod (centre), and oil pod (right) all work well, but the flavor they produce isn’t as strong as that of a vaporizer dedicated to just one substance.

Wax Concentrate Performance: The Trio uses a dual quartz coil so it heats up the wax pretty quickly, while keeping the flavor pure. The highest setting is the best here. You can probably assume that the vapor produced by this device is not as potent as that produced by a dedicated vape pen. That assumption would be right. The vapor isn’t as dense and the flavor isn’t as strong, but for a tiny multi-substance vaporizer, it isn’t bad.

Oil Concentrate Performance: I found that the low and middle settings are the best for vaporizing oil. At those settings, the oil had a nice flavor and aroma, it’s not better than a straight-up oil vape, but it’s still pretty good.

E-Liquid Performance: You should know the drill by now, the flavor is good, but not as good as it would be if you used an actual e-cig. That makes the Trio a jack-of-all-trades and master of none, but that is okay since few vaporizers offer the convenience and versatility that the Trio does.

As long as you don’t have expectations that the Trio will perform as well as a vaporizer that specializes in a single substance, you won’t be disappointed. The main big downside to this device is that its small size means that it can’t hold a lot of any particular substance. It’s not a big deal if you’re a light vaper, but if you vape heavily, then you might be refilling the Trio a lot.

Battery Performance: The Trio uses a 500 mAh battery that is good enough to last for a full day of vaping. It also recharges quickly, which adds to the overall convenience.
