KandyPens Miva 2 Background
The KandyPens Miva is very similar to the Atmos Vicod 5G, which made our list of the Best Dry Herb Vaporizers. With the Miva 2, KandyPens is looking to move in on that spot on the list. To find out how the Miva 2 improves upon its prototype, check out our KandyPens Miva 2 Review for all the design, kit, and performance details.
KandyPens is at it again; they’ve been killing it in the vape pen market with the Prism and the ASAP Rocky vape pen, now they’re back with the Miva 2 ($119 directly from KandyPens, use coupon code TVG25 to save 25%), a dual use vaporizer that can be used with both dry herb and wax. You might remember our original Miva Review–a quick reminder–we love it.
KandyPens Miva 2 Kit
The Miva 2 kit includes all the basics you need in a dual use vaporizer, as well as a glass mouthpiece that supplements, and arguably improves on, the basic mouthpiece. Here’s what you’ll get in the Miva 2’s kit:
- Miva 2 dry herb vaporizer
- Steel cylinder insert for vaping wax
- Glass mouthpiece
- Packing tool and cleaning brush
- USB charging cable
The KandyPens Miva 2 doesn’t include a grinder so you will want to invest in a good one like the SLX. Herb grinders break down your herb to a fine consistency that works great for weed vaporizers by helping you get the most out of your unit, efficiency-wise.
Key Features of the KandyPens Miva 2
The compact size and portability of the Miva 2 are the first things you’ll notice about the Miva 2. It’s a small wonder that the unit is so compact, because it has +/-1 degree adjustable temperature controls and a digital OLED screen like the big boys. You can’t ignore the dual use factor either. Here is what you can look forward to when unboxing the Miva 2:
- Compatibility with dry herb + concentrate
- Glass mouthpiece – cools down vapor / preserves flavor
- Hybrid (convection / conduction) heating system – heats herb evenly
- Vast temp range – can be adjusted from 350-430°F
- Retails for $119 directly from KandyPens, coupon code TVG25 saves you 25%
Users benefit from much customizable control and convenience options with this minute vaporizer, including a digital screen that displays the current temperature and battery life…a feature dry herb vapes this size rarely include.
Design of the KandyPens Miva 2
The KandyPens Miva 2 is intuitively designed despite the small size. The power and temperature controls are easy to access and use, and the OLED screen is crisp and clear. At 3.45 x 1.47 x 0.7 inches, the Miva 2 will fit comfortably in your hands and slips easily into any pocket.
The 3.45″ height corresponds with the standard mouthpiece–the extended glass mouthpiece adds a few inches to the Miva 2 and makes it less pocket friendly–though the improved vapor makes up for it, and you can remove the mouthpiece for transport. The Miva 2’s small size makes it a great solo use portable vaporizer, especially for on-the-go.
If you prefer to use the glass mouthpiece, then you can just take that with you separately and attach it when it’s vaping time. Each mouthpiece attaches and detaches quickly / easily so that won’t impact your flow. The Miva 2 also has new gold embellishments, which add a little something to the device’s aesthetic.
Using the KandyPens Miva 2
The KandyPens Miva 2 is designed with portability in mind so it’s really simple to use whether your choice is dry herb or wax, here’s how you get started.
For Dry Herb:
- Remove the mouthpiece, fill the herb chamber about three quarters, and replace the mouthpiece.
- Click the power button five times to power up the Miva 2.
- Select desired temperature using the arrows.
- Vape away by inhaling from your choice of mouthpiece.
- Remove the mouthpiece, insert the concentrate cylinder, add rice-sized dab, and replace mouthpiece.
- Turn on the Miva 2 by clicking the power button 5x.
- Use the arrows to choose a temperature.
- Start vaping.
The KandyPens Miva 2 makes it easy to start each session quickly, but when using wax–you will want to check out the selection of dab tools on Amazon. These consist of storage containers and precision dab tools which aren’t included in the Miva 2 kit, and will simplify your sessions.
Performance and Vapor Quality of the KandyPens Miva 2
The vapor quality from dry herb is pretty good for a vaporizer this size and you can get some nice sized cloudstoo. So far, you probably noticed all my (not so) subtle hints that the glass mouthpiece works better than thestandard mouth piece.
The reason is that the vapor path is longer so the vapor has more time to cool down; the standard steel mouthpiece is really close to the herb chamber so the vapor retains most of the heat. IMHO, that makes for harsher vapor, so I always opt for the glass.
Personally, I prefer this device for dry herb–and I stick to my wax pens to get the job done over there. For me–it’s apples and oranges: I’ve been using the Miva 2 when it comes to dry herb, and the Flacko Jodye Vape Pen for my THC extracts.
I found that for dry herb, a temperature range of 350-380 works best, anything higher causes the vapor quality to decline sharply. Those higher temperatures are clearly meant for the wax so keep that in mind anytime you fire up the Miva 2.
The battery life is good for 90 minutes using dry herb, that’s about 4 to 8 uses before a recharge. Speaking of which, that takes under an hour so if you plan to take it out, there’s a good chance that the Miva 2 will be ready before you are.
