G Pen Gio Review

The Good: Great flavor quality | Cool, ergonomic design | Highly portable | Long battery life

The Bad: Lower strain variety than 510 cartridges | Long charge time

The Bottom Line: The G Pen Gio is one of the better proprietary oil vaporizers that I’ve tried because of how cool it looks and the great flavor quality. The cartridge variety isn’t as good as it is with 510 cartridges but it is still pretty solid, with a lot of great strains to choose from. If you don’t mind—or even prefer—using proprietary cartridges, then you should get a Gio for yourself.

Kit and Accessories

G Pen Gio Kit
L-R: G Pen Gio package, G Pen Gio battery, G Pen Gio cartridge, USB charging cable. The cartridge is not included in the kit of the Gio.
  • G Pen Gio battery
  • USB charging cable

Compatibility: The Gio is only compatible with proprietary G Pen Gio cartridges.

Optional Accessories

The kit of the Gio is understandably bare-bones since all you need is the battery and the cartridge. Nonetheless, there are some cool and useful accessories that you can purchase if you feel so inclined. The most interesting is the water pipe adapter that allows you to filter the vapor through a water bubbler. Needless to say, this kills the Gio’s portability stone dead, but it does provide cooler vapor.

The charging dock is a sleeker, less bulky accessory that’s great for both storing and charging the Gio. It’s a very cool-looking device that charges up the Gio very quickly and is useful even if you’re not using it for charging because it serves as a stylish stand for the Gio. Unlike the previous accessories, the silicon sleeve actually helps with portability because it provides some extra protection for the Gio while retaining its sleek form factor.

Design and Features

G Pen Gio Design
The Gio is very slim design and is about the size of the average e-cigarette. The contoured design is ergonomic and makes it easy to hold.

General Design: The Gio battery has a slim, ergonomic design that feels as good as it looks. It’s a very slim device, but it’s also nicely contoured so that your fingers get a good grip whether you are right or left handed. The cartridge attaches to the battery easily and it sits tight so you never have to worry that it will slip off.

The mouthpiece of the cartridge feels good and has a slightly wider opening than what you see on many pre-filled cartridges, so it has a pretty good airflow. All of those design details means that the Gio easily stands out from the vast crowd of oil vaporizers out there.

Portability: The Gio is roughly the size of your average e-cigarette so portability is very much a non-issue here. I already mentioned that it’s a very slim device so that just enhances the travel-friendliness even more. Quite simply, if you have a pocket, then you can take the Gio anywhere.

Build Quality: The Gio is made from zinc alloy, so it’s a tough little device that can survive a drop or two or more. It’s also resistant to scratches, so it will look as good as new for as long as you own it.

How To Use

  1. Attach the cartridge to the battery.
  2. Inhale from the cartridge.

Yep, that’s it! It doesn’t get any simpler, and there’s no temperature or voltage selection to worry about either.

Performance and Vapor Quality

G Pen Gio Performance
The Gio has fewer strains to choose from than 510 batteries do, but there is a good variety and they are all quite flavorful.

Vapor Quality: The vapor produced by the Gio is robust and flavorful, though the strain you choose has a lot to do with the flavor quality. Fortunately, you have a lot of different strains to choose from with the Gio.

Strain variety is usually where proprietary cartridges lag behind the 510 cartridges. The Gio won’t change that but it does have a pretty good variety to choose from since it has been out for a while. That includes some CBD strains as well for all of you who aren’t always interested in getting high.

Prices range from $30 on the low end to up to $70 on the higher end. That’s expensive for sure, but each cartridge can last from a week to a month depending on how frequently you use it. So you won’t be emptying each pod as soon as you get it.

Battery Performance: The battery has a 180 mAh capacity and can last for days of moderate vaping before it needs a recharge. That recharge does take about two hours though, so make sure to schedule your charge time accordingly so that you aren’t left stranded when you need it most.

Bottom Line

G Pen Gio
9.4 Total Score
G Pen Gio Review Bottom Line

The G Pen Gio is one of the best oil vaporizers available because of its ease of use, portability, and slick style. The vapor it produces is very flavorful and the cartridges come in a lot of different strains. Those cartridges can get expensive but they last for a long time, so you get your money’s worth with each one. The battery lasts a long time too, so you can enjoy each cartridge without having to stop for a recharge. If you’re more into proprietary cartridges than the 510 kind, then the Gio is one of the best choices available.

Who is it for: Anyone who enjoys the ease and simplicity of cartridge vaping but wants more style to go with it.

Who is it NOT for:  Vapers who don’t want to use proprietary cartridges. Anyone who doesn’t want to spend too much on their cartridges.

A huge proponent of the vaping lifestyle who would love it if everyone who smokes makes the switch to vaping instead. Loves CBD and would like to see it infused into everything. Aside from the world of vaping, he also loves reading, health & fitness, gadgets & technology, and culture, both the pop and regular kind.

  1. You forgot to say that the gio has no temperature control.
This was a huge deal breaker for me because it’s burning my throat.

  2. I was wondering if you’ve tried Stiiizy? I’ve been trying to find a Stiiizy vs Gio Pod review but can’t. How would you say they compare if you have tried Stiiizy?

  3. Love this thing, I’ve been running it for about 6 months now and haven’t even thought about switching. I’m rough on my things, dropped, smashed, kicked across the parking lot, it seams this is the Navy Seal of the segment. Anyways, on to the smoke, don’t need to take long draws, nice quick little hits(although you can, just gets chalkier). They are always consistent, I highly recommend this to anyone that is trying to be low key with their smoking, or just wants a cool piece that rips consistently.
