G Pen Elite Review

9.3 Total Score
Bottom Line

The G Pen Elite is a cool, sleek, ergonomically designed weed vaporizer that’s great for users of all experience levels. It’s simple use, wide range of temperatures, and tasty vapor will appeal to everyone. It’s small size and discreet vapor production means that everyone can use it anywhere. The only downside is the relatively weak battery, it doesn’t last too long and takes ages to charge. Other than that, this is a top quality dry herb vape that delivers vapor that punches above its price range.

G Pen Elite Review

G Pen Elite Background

The Elite is the portable, ergonomically designed dry herb vaporizer from G Pen. Or rather, one of the portable, ergonomically designed dry herb vaporizers from G Pen, because they specialize in this sort of thing. Granted, they’ve branched out into extract vaping with the Nova and Gio, but they use a lot of the same principles from their weed vapes in those devices.

Those principles include an unprecedented ease of use, very simple loading, and great vapor quality, in other words, the same principles you see in the best weed vapes. The Elite is an exemplary example of those design principles, though it includes a few unique attributes that make it stand out. Continue reading to see just what they are.

How It Is Designed

G Pen Elite Design

The Elite has a sleek, ergonomic look with a convenient LED display on the side.

I use the word ergonomic to describe how the Elite looks and feels because that is the perfect description for it. The only thing that fits more comfortably in your hand is a glove, every curve on the Elite is in the perfect position and the rubber covering the body means that you never have to worry about it slipping out of your hand.

You never have to worry about slipping it into your pocket either, because the Elite is small and slim enough to fit there comfortably. The buttons used to control the power and the temperature are slightly raised from the surface, which makes them easy to hit on purpose, but not by accident. Needless to say, it feels very good to hold. Vaping from it feels good too, even though the somewhat flat mouthpiece is not my favorite.

Loading is a simple procedure, all you do is pop off the mouthpiece, place your herb in the chamber, replace the mouthpiece and you’re done. Popping off the mouthpiece can take some effort, but at least you know that it’s secure. The Elite has an LED screen that clearly shows you the temperature and battery info, which is like the cherry on top of a well-designed sundae.

How It Performs

G Pen Elite Chamber

The Elite has a large chamber for its size, capable of holding 0.75g of herb.

The Elite is a mid-range vaporizer in terms of price but its vapor quality is more high end, it tastes great and I felt the effects of the THC pretty quickly. It doesn’t produce too much vapor, which is great for covert vaping, so I don’t really count that as a negative. It also heats up surprisingly fast, it only takes ninety seconds to reach any of the temperatures in the Elite’s range of 200°F to 428°F.

I got the best flavor in the 365°F to 375°F range, any higher and the vapor gets hot because of the short vapor path. So I would suggest that you start there and use long, slow draws when you do, especially since the Elite’s draw resistance is so low. You’ll be drawing a lot too, because the Elite’s herb chamber is rather large—capable of holding 0.75 g of herb—considering the small size of the rest of the unit.

Battery: The Elite’s battery lasts for a relatively short amount of time, about 45 to 60 minutes, which is good for about four to six sessions. However, the charge time is pretty long too, at roughly two to three hours, so plan accordingly.

The Final Word

The G Pen Elite is a rock-solid mid-range vape that has a lot of pros and very few cons. It looks and feels good, it is very easy to use, and it produces better vapor than its price would indicate. It’s also very easy to carry around, so you can take it pretty much everywhere, and vape nearly everywhere since it doesn’t produce too much attention-getting vapor.

The only downside is the battery, the charge time is very long and it doesn’t last as long as you might like, though you can get a fair amount of sessions out of it. Overall, this is a great vaporizer whether you’re a veteran or a newbie.

  1. This vape works amazing. I have been smoking a chillum for about five years because I am so cheep. Then recently I had pneumonia and read that vaping was the healthy alternative. After finishing whatever antibiotics I had, I searched for a vape. Being completely new to vapes, I bought one that screws on to an e-cig battery. It really irritated my lungs because it burnt the material rather than actually vaporizing it. After spending 70 regrettable dollars on that, I renewed my search. At a shop I found the Grenco Science Elite Vaporizer. I took the chance at about and was completely surprised. I plugged it in and it was charged after about 3 hours. It works great! Nicely vapes the material and is very efficent using all of the material evenly in the chamber. Very simple to understand how to use it. Has a pretty large range of temperatures to select from which can be a little confusing for a person inexperienced in vaping, however with some light searching online it was easy to find this website and a reccomendation for a temp. The device feels comfortable and solid to hold and the little tools they give with it feel quality. I am very happy with this purcase! Performs great and it does not hurt my lungs to use. In fact I would go as far as to say the vapor feels therapeudic haha

    • Glad you liked it Dan. I was pretty impressed with it also. The G Pen Elite is my first choice for out-of-house vape 😉

  2. Thanks for the helpful review. Have you checked out the Grasshopper yet? I’m trying to decide between the Grasshopper and the G Pen Elite. It would great to hear your comparison of the two. Thanks!

    • You might be waiting quite a while for the Grasshopper to come out. The realese date has kept getting pushed back for years and is now Aug 2016( whick will probably change yet again. If You are willing to drop $330 definetly get Firefly 2. If not then go with the G Pen Elite.

    • Hi Scott, no I have not got a chance to personally check out the Grasshopper. I’ve been using the Elite for about a month straight now and I’m happy to say it is a phenomenal vaporizer..;)

      • Thanks for the feedback! Good to know you still like it. I just find myself attracted to the super-stealthiness of the Grasshopper and the crazy fast heat-up time. However, having to worry about it getting to hot seems like a bit of a pain. How about the cleaning/maintenance of the ELITE?

        • Cleaning and Maintenance is super easy. Seems like the mouthpiece is only part that that will need replacement in the future..
As far as heat up time, the Elite is super fast. You see the temperature going up on the screen QUICKLY. The mouthpiece gets a bit warm but when you learn that you acutely need to wrap your lips around rather than having them touch the middle part of the mouthpiece, it gets a lot more manageable.
As I said, no experience with the grasshopper but the Elite gets the job done beautifully 😉

  3. Thanks so much for the fast reply and all the info!

  4. Back again with another question. I forgot to ask … does the ELITE work well if you don’t fill the chamber up all the way? Like if you just want a small pinch of herb for a couple of puffs? Or is it better to fill it up and just use the same batch in their for several sessions? Thanks!

  5. Yea I fill it halfway and it works perfectly 😉

    • New to vaping. How do you tell when the herb is finished??

      • Three ways:
        1. You feel that the flavor is gone
        2. You open the chamber and look at the herb. If it is brownish than it is done.
        3. You develop a six sense to it in a few days 😉

  6. Question I really don’t want to use this for smoking weed but better yet hookah Tabacco or dry pipe tobacco does this work with it .

  7. Hi. Great review. May I ask which vape is your favorite for at home use. Thanks!

  8. I agree with all the good things you have to say about the GPen Elite. But there is one big drawback…reliability. I am now waiting for my 3rd GPen (second replacement under warrantee) and it is still less than 2 months since my initial purchase. On the bright side, their customer service folks are fab and quick to authorize return and send a replacement when their device dies. On the other hand, I had the first die at 4 weeks and the second at 3, both with problems in the electronics/temp display/heating functions. Glad it has a warrantee, but I sure see why it’s only a year long. I am shopping for a more reliable device as going without for a week every month doesn’t work for me. It’s a real shame because otherwise I love this vape. Great hand feel, nice large oven, does not get too warm, pass through charging, decent battery life, very discreet when out and about. I did replace their perforated metal “screen” with an actual piece of pipe screen because theirs got clogged all the time, but with that little adjustment this thing worked great. If only one had died I would still be a very happy customer, but two in a row dying so fast is eroding my joy.
