AirVape X Review

The Good: Great flavor quality | Slim, pocketable shape | Fast recharge time

The Bad: Short battery life | Subpar wax performance

The Bottom Line: I liked using the AirVape X because it’s a terrific mid-range weed vaporizer that shows just how good vapes in this price range can be. It has great flavor quality, a slim, sleek profile, and a great feature set. The slim shape means that the battery has a low capacity, but that’s the only problem that I had with the X.

Official Accessories

The AirVape X features a whole host of great accessories, such as the water bubbler set that allows you to use water filtration to cool down the vapor. That’s mainly for hardcore users since it kills the portability that is one of the X’s strongest features.

The X Shell silicon sleeve that gives the vape full body protection is the opposite since it enhances portability, as well as the durability, of the device. The X shell easily slips onto the X and maintains its slim profile while providing extra impact and splash protection. Note that any AirVape X’s purchased after June 1, 2019, will include the X Shell in their kit.

You can also get a more conventional silicon sleeve that mainly provides a stronger, more heat resistant grip to the device. Several different kinds of chargers are available to keep the X juiced up since its battery life is relatively poor. There are also replacement parts for the various accessories and components included in the kit of the X.

Design and Features

AirVape X Design
The X has a slim, portable friendly design but the mirrored screen can be hard to read in bright light.

General Design: The Airvape X is one of the thinnest dry herb vaporizers I’ve ever used. In profile, it’s barely wider than many e-cigs, though it gets a little wider at the top quarter, where the herb chamber is located. It’s so skinny, it makes many other weed vapes look downright obese. That thinness means that the X is also pretty light, though not to the point that it feels insubstantial, this is actually a pretty solid feeling device despite its lean design.

The X is a mid-priced dry herb vape and it has all the features that we’ve come to expect from devices in this price range. That includes precise temperature control, a clear, informative LED screen that displays battery life, temperature, and time, as well as haptic feedback. All are great features, though the LED screen has a mirrored surface that can make it hard to read under bright lights.

This is a very simple to use weed vaporizer thanks in part to its easy to remove magnetic lid. It’s quite secure when attached, but is easy to remove when it’s time to load or empty the ceramic chamber. That chamber has an oval shape, of course, since it would be hard to maintain that slim design with a round chamber. It holds a decent amount of herb and is pretty easy to fill. The wide, slim, ceramic mouthpiece maintains the design style of the rest of the device and feels good to inhale from as well.

Portability: At a height of just four inches and a width of less than an inch, the X is one of the most pocket-friendly weed vapes you’ll ever encounter. It slips in and out of pockets like it was designed to do just that, which for all I know, it might have been. As long as your pants have pockets, you can take the X anywhere with you.

Build Quality: The X is a lot tougher than I expected. It has a steel body that’s very durable and has a nice texture to it.

Cleaning and Maintenance

You only need to worry about cleaning the herb chamber, but the oval shape can make that a little tricky. That’s because it is a pretty slim oval which makes digging into the narrow edges with the cleaning brush a little difficult. Aside from that, the X is a pretty low-maintenance device.

How to Use

  1. Remove the magnetic mouthpiece to expose the herb chamber.
  2. Load the herb chamber and then replace the mouthpiece.
  3. Press the power button three times to turn on the device.
  4. Select the temperature using the up and down buttons.
  5. Heating completion is indicated by the device vibrating, at which point you can inhale from the mouthpiece.

Temperature Range: 200°F – 428°F

Performance and Vapor Quality

AirVape X Performance
The vapor quality produced by dry herb is pretty good, but the wax flavor quality isn’t too great.

Vaporizer Performance: The X only takes twenty seconds to heat up, which is on the fast side for weed vaporizers. It doesn’t get too hot to the touch while in use either, so it’s a pretty comfy vape to use overall.

Vapor Quality: The vapor produced by the X is very flavorful, it can’t quite match the vapor quality of the really expensive weed vapes but it is among the best in this price range. The ceramic chamber and the ceramic mouthpiece work in concert to keep the vapor pure and tasty. The mouthpiece also does a solid job of keeping the vapor cool despite the short airpath.

For me, the ideal temperatures are in the 350° to 390° range, anything below this range and the flavor isn’t as strong, anything higher and the vapor gets too harsh. Unfortunately, the temperature never gets high enough to properly vape any wax concentrates. So even though the X is listed as a dual-use vaporizer, its concentrate performance is essentially an afterthought. Use an actual wax vape for your concentrates.

Battery Performance: The slim design means that the X can’t have a substantial battery. The performance of the 1300 mAh battery is a mix of the good and the bad. The bad is that it only lasts for about an hour, which is very short for a weed vape. The good is that it only takes about eighty minutes to charge and that pass through charging is possible.

Air Vape X vs Linx Gaia vs Planet of the Vapes One Vaporizer

The Gaia is an interesting wax vaporizer that has a quartz lined herb chamber that produces flavorful vapor. It also has a glass mouthpiece to keep that vapor cool. The One is a small, pocket-friendly vaporizer that also has a glass mouthpiece so it provides cool, flavorful vapor when it’s used. The X has the smallest battery of the three, but that is offset by it also having the second shortest charge time.

9 Total Score
AirVape X Review Bottom Line

The AirVape X is one of the best mid-priced dry herb vaporizers you can buy right now. That is thanks to its great flavor quality and slim, portable shape. Battery life is a letdown but at least the recharge time is short. So, if you’re in the market for a weed vape in this price range, you can’t do much better than the AirVape X.

Who is it for: Vapers who need a device with very high portability that doesn’t skimp on vapor quality.

Who is it NOT for: Vapers who need a longer lasting device. Anyone who enjoys wax vaping.
