In-Depth Smoant Battlestar 200W Review
It looks like a Reuleaux, it vapes like a Reuleaux but it’s not the Reuleaux, introducing the Smoant Battlestar 200W. Smoant, the sub-brand of Cloupor, has launched a new vape mod called Battlestar 200W ($48.99 from VaporDNA), which has an eye-catching coveted look. That you’re going to love.
Design and Appearance
Battlestar 200W is similar to Reuleaux RX2/3 it has that infamous triangle shape design that is ergonomic and feels comfortable in your hands. This mod is rubber painted and dirt-resistant because of its ceramic baked coating. Although, the paint at the edges and corners needs to improve for it shows slight depainting. Nevertheless, the overall stability of the mod is good.
The Smoant Battlestar 200W adopts the gold-plated 510 connector which perfectly flushes on any 22mm – 25mm atomizers. The Battlestar 200W has a dimension size of 83.5mm (h) x 40mm (w) x 34mm (d). The dashboard interface has a common layout like the Reuleaux RX2/3 although the OLED screen is a little smaller: fire button above the screen, adjustable buttons are in one-piece (“-” on the left and “+” on the right), USB port is at the bottom for charging purposes but no firmware upgrade feature.
This device has a lot of ventilation holes on each side, on its bottom, as well as on the battery door for heat dissipation. By closer observation, I found that the screen is covered with a layer of protective glass – to prevent the screen from scratches.
The battery compartment is pretty well tight and can’t easily fall off because of the four pairs of strong magnets (when I say strong you really need to have a good grip to pull it off). The battery compartment is made of high-quality material and is well-built.
The unit features OLED screen display which shows the vape mod’s current information including resistance, voltage, battery percentage, and wattage/temperature mode. It also supports TC modes for Nickel (Ni200), Titanium (Ti), Stainless Steel (SS) and NiChrome (NiCr) and provides three TCR presets for the users to self-define the TC material.
Smoant Battlestar 200W TC box mod is simple to operate: 5 consecutive clicks on fire button to power ON/OFF, 3 consecutive clicks on fire button to enter the menu. It also features Smart mode, so if the tank is installed correctly, a menu option will prompt which then gives two choices, “+” on the right is to set up a new resistance for the tank and “-” on the left to set up the original resistance.
To reverse the screen, long press the two adjustable buttons. Pressing fire button together with “+” button will switch the display between “black letter on white background” or “white letter on black background”.
Long-press the fire button and two adjustable buttons, users could lock up power and temperature settings but keep in mind that this mod has no lock-up feature, so you better turn off this device when you carrying it in your purse or when you tuck it into your pocket to prevent accidental firing.
What’s in the Kit?
Inside the box, there is the Battlestar 200W box mod, a bilingual card, a handbook and an accessory box that contains a USB cable and a box of spare magnets for your battery compartment. There are three available color schemes for Battlestar 200W: Yellow/Black, All Black and Black/White. Personally, I like the Yellow/Black color it really has a strong sci-fi movie appearance. For me, it reminds me of the infamous “Bumblebee” from the sci-fi movie “Transformers”.
For output wattage, the Battestar 200W has nearly 0.5 seconds latency after firing at 200W (although I don’t believe it has an accurate 200 wattage output). Keep in mind, that most of the box mods nowadays have this kind of issue – especially firing on wattages over 100W, the chipset takes some time to execute accurately.
In the aspect of temp control, I’ve used several sub-ohm atomizers to experience the Ni, Ti, and SS modes, and I found that the coils’ heat-up speed is fast, the output is continuous and there is no apparent impulse.
At its lower price, the Battlestar’s chipset is accurate in detecting resistance and is perfectly executing output wattage, and the data is very close to that of the detecting software of Reuleaux RX2/3 which is by far more expensive.
Overall, I like better the Battlestar 200W rather than the Reuleaux RX2/3 – its easier, inexpensive, and simple to handle box mod. Even newbies could deal with the simple and straightforward settings that the Battlestar 200W offers. With all that being said, I think this box mod has a place on my best vape mods this year.
